Take the engine from this:
Put it in this:
Do some minor tuning, and create this:
What do you think?

You could... but at the end of the day, it wouldn’t be much better than the GTO. In fact, no idea if it would be any better.
If you wanna be different, go for it. But it’s going to be kinda costly just to be different.

Basically I’m just trying to figure out how to get more enjoyment from a Catera.

It’s been done. Lingenfelter did it. I believe GM even had a one off and the parts from that were sold on eBay. I’ve seen a few custom swaps as well. Fabricating headers that fit is one of the major issues with the swap.

I have no clue on an official V8 Catera from GM. I do know about the Steinmetz Catera from back in the day.

How much tuning would you have to do on that body? I’m worried you’d be trying for this
And end up with this
For the price and trouble of just getting this
That said, I fully endorse this idea.

Why not take this
And convert it to this?
More interior and cosmetic work, but I think would be easier than a swap.

There were some actual Steinmetz supercharger kits in the wild too.
Google “Omega V8" for the GM concept.

Yeah but I’m not looking for a VE.

What I’ve always wanted to do is rebadge something like an Aveo into a Barina. Commodore and Monaro swaps are too common.

One word:
No.

You have to give me points for taking a Catera though.

taking a Catera though
No one else would.

That’s exactly why it’s brilliant.

I think i’d rather start with an LS2 GTO, instead of the LS1 you posted :p
You can Holden swap the front end on those as well if you’re not interested in dumb pontiac beak. A friend of mine had it done to his car back in the day. I thought it was a big improvement.
Spoiler removal is also key

NO!! STOP PARTING OUT GTO’S!!
With that being said... the cheapest place to find an all aluminum LS engine is in v8 Trail blazers/ Envoy/ Saab 9-7 / & whatever the buick version is. They all got all aluminum 5.3
Other then that I say do it!!! It would be pretty sweet

Never realized I posted an 04
Odd considering I specifically googled for an 06 with the 6.0

Yeah, but it doesn’t Zig tho...

I actually think the LS1 hood is much nicer looking the nostril’d thing that came on the 05-06 version. But that LS2....
Ironically the guy who owned the LS2 GTO i posted sold that car and bought a 240SX...With an
LS1
from a GTO under its hood. Though with about 800 lbs less to carry around, the 240SX is definitely faster.

Modern HFV6 swap.
Soon you’re gonna find V6 Camaros with 6 speeds everywhere in junk yards. 305 HP in a Catera? Fun.

I actually looked at something similar when Cateras were being sold in my area that were drastically depreciated two owner cars. It seems like now they’re all more along the lines of the beat up junkers you see on car lots where they’re hoping to sell them to someone that’s ok with that because it’s a Caddy they can get from a buy here pay here lot.
I say do it!

Wrong, nostril hood, is best hood

It just makes me think of someone putting a couple of air compressor hoses in your nose and then spraying them.
The aesthetics are neither here nor there, but its just uncomfortable looking.
Its like if you had pants that were designed to be dark around the crotch area. I know you didn’t actually pee your pants, but damnit if those dont look uncomfortable anyway.
I also reserve the right to be full of shit.
![]() 10/16/2017 at 18:16 |

Huh, unless the dark crotch pants became popular....
Personally I just think the nostrils add to the overall look that the smooth hood didn’t help. Now when you take off the wing too, the smooth hood is more subtle, but I just find it boring myself.
I just need the SAP front end and a splitter and I would be happy with the overall look.

You could do an LT1 crate engine instead... Would make some sense if you also swapped the steering rack for an EPAS unit.

just wait a few years and import from Saudi Arabia!
OR go to Germany and buy a Euro sec Omega with factory V8?
